"Reached" - #Science and stuff - Chapter 31-53
Summary:
The following days/weeks Cassia and Xander are working hard to find a cure to the mutation. Cassia tries to find out which ingredients would be needed, but she constantly has the feeling like she is forgetting something really important. Xander is working in a laboratory for the chief-medic, Oker. Oker also helped creating the original virus and it´s cure, then left the society when he was close to his final banquet. One day Oker has an inspiration and is sure, that he has found the ingredient needed to find a cure. They gather the flowers (-> camassia, it's a kind of lily) and make produce the cure. But once they receive permission to try it on the patients, Oker realises he was wrong - the secret ingredient is a different flower.
He tells Xander to get rid of all the cammassia-cures and leaves to get the herb, that should help. Unfortunately he has a heart attack on the way and dies. But before he died he managed to scetch the flower he wanted to get on the floor next to him. Cassia finds him there and sees the sketch of the flower on the ground. Through clever combination and some previous events that were too unimportant to mention them in this summary, she finally find what she has been forgetting in her calculation - the flower that Oker was thinking of was Mariposa lily.
Unluckily, most people from the village think, that Xander had something to do with Oker´s death and destroyed the camassia-cures without Oker telling him to. He gets put in jail until it's decided what will happen to him. Cassia visits him because she needs him to create an efficient cure with the right ingredients. Cassia gives the cure to Ky and is convinced, that it will work.
While the whole village is gathered to decide what to do with Xander, the Pilot arrives and asks for the cure - chaos has broken out in some cities and he needs it immediately. First he's not convinced, but when Cassia leads him to Ky, who is just starting to regain consciousness and can already talk a little, he wants them to produce as much of the new cure as possible.
Thoughts:
Actually better than the second book - that's rare! The last part was really entertaining and I have to say, that I enjoyed reading. I'm already excited to see how the story will end - hope it's not as predictable as it seems.
